A needs assessment exercise was undertaken in March, following the GLOW principles of inclusion and participation. Two methodologies were used: (A) Focus group discussions for 126 HQ staff members divided into 9 groups. About 83 colleagues participated in the discussions, reflecting a participation rate of 66%; (B) An online questionnaire, consisting of one ranking question and nine open questions, was sent to 213 colleagues: UNV Programme Officers, Country Offices Assistants, Programme Managers, Focal points, Liaison Office colleagues (4) and to a limited number of HQ staff (20) who could not take part in the focus group discussions. Responses were anonymous and 19% of them were received in French, 10% in Spanish and 71% in English.
The overall return rate from the focus group discussions and online survey was 72%. Your responses in the need assessment have been taken into account while preparing the content and designing the programme of the workshop.
Here is a summary of the feedback from the survey and the discussions. more »

The Personal Information Questionnaires have been sent by email to colleagues from the HQs and Liaison Offices who're participating in GLOW. They are requested to fill in the questionnaire by Wednesday, 27 April. The questionnaire, consisting of 21 questions, can be filled online in about five minutes.

Every major event within UNV begins with a needs assessment (NA). That’s the right thing to do, isn’t it? Unless we know what needs to be done at the event, how do we prepare for it? But there has been this buzz in the recent months that there’s a “NA fatigue” among the colleagues, especially after a very low response to the NA survey for this year’s General Staff Retreat. So when GLOW was announced, NA kind of became a taboo word! But, surprise, surprise, there’s a Needs Assessment Team even for GLOW! The GLOWeb Editor recently interviewed Robert Toe, Needs Assesment Team Coordinator, to find out what his team has done to overcome the “fatigue” and energize the colleagues to participate in the needs assessment exercise. And how it has made a difference. Read the interview because it does spring up more surprises! |
