GLOW News: Issue 514 April 2005
GLOW is about UNV's culture & identity: Ad
Dear All,
This week has been a landmark week for GLOW. We’re just a month away from the unique and wonderful event and there has been so much progress in different aspects.
In a conversation with the GLOWeb Editor, our Executive Coordinator Ad de Raad brings us up-to-date about the GLOW process and how he feels about it at this point, one month to go. “GLOW is not an event in isolation. It’s a process that has already begun and that continues beyond the event in May. It’s about the way we do business in UNV, following the principles of inclusion and participation. And we should be proud of it!” he says.
He shares his thoughts about this event, why it is important and what he expects out of it. Here are links to Ad’s interview: In English: http://glow.civiblog.org/blog/_WebPages/interviewAd.html en français: http://glow.civiblog.org/blog/_WebPages/interviewAdFre.html en espagnol: http://glow.civiblog.org/blog/_WebPages/interviewAdSpa.html
Thanks to all of you, we have chosen a beautiful logo and a meaningful motto for GLOW in a most participatory and transparent manner possible. Besides the winning entries, the other submissions will also be used in various ways for GLOW. So, congratulations to Isabel and Sonam, and also to all others who participated in the competition!
A working draft of the programme agenda is now ready and we’ve posted it on the GLOWeb. Even as work continues to finalize the agenda, it’s a milestone in that process. You’ll find more details about the agenda and other information below.
Best wishes,
GLOW Communications Team Glow-comm@unvolunteers.org
THIS WEEK’S NEWS & INFORMATION
================================================= FLASH NEWS! FLASH NEWS! FLASH NEWS!
Presenting: Working draft of the GLOW AgendaThe Programme Content Team is happy to share with us a working draft of the Agenda for GLOW. It is certainly not the first draft; much work has gone into preparing this agenda, taking into consideration various inputs from the needs assessment survey and the focus group discussions as well as from other Functional Teams.
At the same time, this is still a work in progress and many details will change before we all meet in Bonn. The Design Team is right now busy working out the process by which this programme will be delivered, so many details will change over the coming weeks. But the working draft will give you a fair idea of the issues/themes that are going to be discussed (Global Framework, Partnerships, Volunteerism & Programme Management etc.) and the purpose behind each day's programme. It'll also tell you to some extent the social events that are being planned.
Since it's an agenda under development, you can take the opportunity to comment on it! Post your comments here on the GLOWeb, send them to Anne-Marie, the Programme Content Team Coordinator.

Come, glow at the Share Fair of the GLOW 2005!The Share Fair will be a space for us to share with colleagues what we do and what we are proud of. It is a platform where we can present our best practices and ideas, where we can meet, discuss and learn from each other. Let us celebrate our achievements and our experiences; display in a colorful way the diversity in the programmes and cultural backgrounds that exist within our organization. The Share Fair will set the tone for the workshop; let’s make it an unforgettable experience!

Happy memories of GLOW99I feel very happy to have the opportunity again to participate in the GLOW05 because it really was such a rich experience (in 1999) to learn from other colleagues to see that we do similar things, that we face similar problems and that together we can also find commo solutions to improve our Programme," writes Claudia Garcia de San Roman.

Is there a 'glow' at the end of the tunnel?Only a little more than a month to go before we all gather in Bonn for GLOW… It’s natural we are anxious to find out what the agenda will be, how we’ll reach there, who all we will meet etc. This past week was a watershed in the GLOW preparation process, with the mid-term review done and senior staff approving the proposed plans and programme of the workshop. So the GLOWeb Editor requested the Project Manager (Douglas) to update us about what all happened during the week and at what stage are the preparations right now. A fair share of the 1999 Share FairThe Share Fair Team has taken the effort to find out the photographs of the Share Fair that was organized in the Global Workshop of 1999. The photographs show the richness, the diversity and the colourful beauty of the fair. They'll surely help you in your planning for this time's Share Faire.
So, here's a snapshot of the Share Fair of 1999 in the special Gallery GLOW99 (photo album) we've created within the Share Fair section: http://glow.civiblog.org/blog/ShareFair/GalleryGLOW99
