UNV: from Context/Purpose to Organizational Chart

(Message posted to the GLOWeb by Ad)

The purpose of this posting is to introduce the latest version of an important slide sequence (UNV from context/purpose to organizational chart) and a summary description of the 7 Key Organizational Goals. It captures my thinking (shared with many of you before) about how we position UNV as that unique programme of the United Nations that, as part of a Web of Inclusion, supports sustainable human development through the promotion of the whole concept of volunteerism, including the mobilisation of volunteers. Not because it is nice to do, but because it is necessary to do...

Dear all,

Presenting: Summary of Needs Assessment responses

A needs assessment exercise was undertaken in March, following the GLOW principles of inclusion and participation. Two methodologies were used:

  1. Focus group discussions for 126 HQ staff members divided into 9 groups. About 83 colleagues participated in the discussions, reflecting a participation rate of 66%
  2. An online questionnaire, consisting of one ranking question and nine open questions, was sent to 213 colleagues: UNV Programme Officers, Country Offices Assistants, Programme Managers, Focal points, Liaison Office colleagues (4) and to a limited number of HQ staff (20) who could not take part in the focus group discussions.  Responses were anonymous and 19% of them were received in French, 10% in Spanish and 71% in English.

The overall return rate from the focus group discussions and online survey was 72%.

Your responses in the need assessment have been taken into account while preparing the content and designing the programme of the workshop.

You can read a summary of the feedback from the survey and the discussions on the GLOWeb:

Best wishes,

THIS WEEK’S NEWS & INFORMATION

=================================================

Sharing information and ideas on GLOWeb: Does it work?

We set up GLOWeb as a tool for not only informing our colleagues about GLOW preparations, but also to enable them to contribute to the process with their ideas, knowledge and experiences. This is the first time we're using an interactive platform for this purpose, so it’s important we assess its usefulness. In order to do that, we have been asking for your views about GLOWeb through online polls.

In our second poll, we asked you all how frequently you visit GLOWeb. Here are the results:

Which means, 67 out of 77 colleagues (87%) said they visited GLOWeb between 2 to 7 times a week. More than 50% people visited the site everyday. This is good, but what’s notable that only 77 colleagues out of potentially 300 voted.

This time we would like to know if you think a web-based tool like GLOWeb is useful for sharing ideas and building knowledge among colleagues and peers, or you would prefer other online tools. So, through the new poll we've just set up on the GLOWeb (see on the right column of the site), please vote for your choice of online tool for knowledge sharing and networking!

Garfield is also glowing!

There are ways NOT to glow, too! Here's one hair-raising example...

Thanks, Garfield!

New Draft of the GLOW agenda

The Programme Content and Design Teams are working to finalize the GLOW programme agenda. Here is the latest version of the agenda: http://glow.civiblog.org/Agenda_WorkDraft_Rev4.doc

Personal Information Questionnaires sent to HQ, Liaison Office colleagues

The Personal Information Questionnaires have been sent by email to colleagues from the HQs and Liaison Offices who're participating in GLOW. By Thursday (28 April) evening, 123 colleagues out of a potential 140+ have filled in the questionnaire. If you are a colleague HQ and have not filled the questionnaire yet, please do so immediately. The questionnaire can be filled online in about five minutes. If you don’t know how to access the questionnaire, contact us at glow-comm@unvolunteers.org.

List of COT colleagues invited to GLOW

The list of COT colleagues who have been invited to GLOW has been posted to the GLOWeb. The list will be updated as we receive the names and other details of some new colleagues who're currently in the process of joining UNV. The list is organized by geographic section, name and country.

This list does not include participants from the HQs and resource persons and guests being invited from outside UNV. We'll share with you their list as soon as it's available.

Colleagues from COTs, if you see your name on this list and yet have not filled in the bio-data (personal information) questionnaire or sent to the Logistics team your travel details, then please do so immediately. It is essential for making timely logistical arrangements for your travel and for authorizing purchase of your tickets.
