Message from the Executive Coordinator
28 November 2004
Dear All,
The purpose of this message is to initiate the planning process of the
2005 Global Workshop (GLOW2005)
to be held in Seminaris Hotel in Bad Honnef (Bonn) from14 to 20 May 2005. .
In consultation with other senior managers, I have asked Douglas Evangelista to take on the role of Project Leader. I am delighted that Douglas is willing to take on this project to which I myself and other CMT members are fully committed and in which we all will fully and actively engage ourselves.
That means that Douglas, supported by us all, will be the key driver behind getting the whole planning process off the ground.
Douglas will initially be assisted by a small team, consisting of Linda Starodub, Robert Toe and Marilen Sanchez. The team will be further assisted by Raymond Clark as external facilitator. Raymond is well known to many of us and I am very glad that he again will be involved in organizing another milestone event in the continuous, dynamic and future oriented organizational development of UNV (both as a programme and as an organization). Like in the case of the launching of the Phase 2 Workflow Review, I expect that we can capitilize on the GRS2005 and SSM2005 (Raymond will also be involved in organizing both of them) to support the organization of the GLOW2005.
All Programme Officers, Country Office Assistants, Programme Managers, selected members of Programme Support Units and Headquarters staff will participate in principle. The costs associated with the workshop will in the first place be covered from existing budgetary provisions. Accordingly, all activities in 2005 will be planned and resourced with the GLOW2005 in mind
Obviously, the development of the planning framework and process will benefit from the experience that UNV gained from organizing the first and very successful global workshop in 1999. As I mentioned earlier, the process towards the workshop in May is as important, if not more, than the event itself. Accordingly, our key organizational values around Participation, Inclusion and Client focus (quality and speed) and key operating principles around Marketing and Communicating, Managing diversity, Empowering the front lines, Training and Learning, Building strategic Partnerships/alliances and Demonstrating impact, outcomes and value, will play an important role.Furthermore we will use the GLOW2005 as an important marker by which we will deliver on a number of items in our Business Plan (e.g. around Conditions of Service, Briefing Kit, e-Learning and e-Communication platforms, Workflow etc.).
The GLOW2005 is a great, for some of us a once-in-a-lifetime, opportunity to truly contribute to and participate in building a dynamic and future oriented Programme.I encourage you all to already start to think about how you will involve yourselves and how you will contribute. Also something to have on your CV!
Soon you will hear more about it all.
Cheers
